Read my thought on why I moved my newsletter to Substack here.

Dear old college roomie,

Thank you for being my first roommate so many years ago. You’re the very reason I called my newsletter “Eclectica”.

You were the first person to see, even before me, that my stories are varied, as are my experiences and tastes. You handed me my first issue of Nylon magazine and said, “It’s just as eclectic as you are.”

Thank you for seeing this. I’m just now understanding what a gift that word was to me.

Ec•lect•ic - n. one who uses a method or approach that is composed of elements drawn from various sources

Eclectic comes from the Greek eklektikos (meaning "selective"), from the verb eklegein, "to select." Eclectic was originally applied to ancient philosophers who were not committed to any single system of philosophy but instead selected whichever doctrines pleased them from every school of thought. —from Merriam Webster

Let no one say
Your tastes are
too strong
too out there
too much
too little

Let no one say
it doesn't match
it doesn't go
it doesn't flow

Let no one say
Sit down
Calm down
Head down

Because in the Kingdom of God
Those who are
misfit
mistaken
misaligned
misunderstood

All find refuge in the one
who says
beloved.

Hi, hi friends! I’m thrilled to be in this lovely new space. I’ll keep it brief—

  • Here’s a mixed-genre playlist of songs that should bring sunshine to your soul.

  • A great article from Today about Black History Month with an interview from Latasha Morrison.

  • This meme made me laugh, but also I sent it to my husband to laugh at how dumb our fights are.

  • This popcorn is the BEST. But if you’re looking for something a little sweeter, check this out.

  • Lastly, here’s something I wrote for Well-Watered Women—I hope it nourishes your soul.

That’s it! Until next time!
