Transitions, Streetlights, and Growing Boys — Oh My!
A back-to-school blessing/poem + (in)courage
Hope for the New School Year
Here’s to the hope of it all—
The hope that
New lockers
New routines
New friends
New classrooms
New school supplies
May give us
The opportunity
To g r o w
To learn
To s t r e t c h
To be r e n e w e d
Because even when
It all catches us by surprise—
The daylight transitions
Into twilight
The streetlights will turn on
And little boys
And little girls
Become young men
And young women
We love that much more.
Hello, friends!
I’m taking a minor break from my series to share another type of story—one of change, deodorant, and of course, growing. Your children may have started the school year, or they may begin this week like ours. In every case, may God be with you in it all.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18For now, I’ll welcome the fact that the streetlights will always turn on when the sun sets. I will trust that God is with me in every momentary change — even when I don’t know what’s coming next. Instead of staking my identity or security on knowing what is to come, I will rest in the comfort of God’s eternal presence.
I’ll also load up on more peanut butter filled pretzels . . . just in case!
